The Counselor Review

The Counselor is a new thriller directed by Ridley Scott. It stars Michael Fassbender, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, and Brad Pitt. The only way I could explain the plot of this movie is by saying that a lawyer gets involved in drug trafficking and well... shit happens I guess (?)

The truth is this movie is really bad. The problem is the screenplay. It sucks completely. It was written by Cormac Mccarthy who has written a ton of very famous novels, but he obviously doesn't know how to write a movie. I had no idea as to what was going on in this movie. You know nothing about the characters, you don't know what their involvement in the story is. The movie is filled with dialogue, and I really don't mind that if it was actually interesting. Every one here is constantly using metaphors, and the conversation drag for way too long. It was simply boring, and even worse since I had no idea what was happening. For example: When shit hits the fan I never really got why, I just knew that something bad happened and now everyone was in danger. The movie doesn't flow, and all the scenes feels disjointed. Characters walk in and out of scenes and you never really know the importance of any scene. Plus the movie has some really weird scenes (like a girl having sex with a car). The only good things are the performances (except for Cameron Diaz who is really weird here), and a couple of cool action scenes.

The Counselor is one of the worst movies I have seen this year. It is a shame since it is filled with a talented cast and director. It makes no sense and it was really boring throughout. The Counselor gets a 1/5

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa Review

Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa is a new comedy from the Jackass guys. It stars Johnny Knoxville and he plays the grandpa character from the Jackass show and movies. Unlike the other Jackass films this movie actually has a plot to it. The grandpa has to take his grandson over to his dad because his mother just got thrown into jail. The film is a hidden camera comedy, and they prank people in every single stop they make on the way.

This movie is probably my favorite comedy of the year. I love Jackass but I wasn't sure if a whole movie just based on the grandpa character would work. Boy did it work. What makes this movie so funny are the reactions. Johnny Knoxville pulls off some really insane stuff here, and the reactions are priceless. It's also really funny how much stuff he gets away with just because people think he is an old dude. Something that I loved is how well Knoxville can make peoples gears grind. You can see so many emotions in their faces while he is doing weird and even illegal stuff. There is also a kid in this movie and he is great. He also messes with people perfectly, and you can tell this kid really knows how to improvise. The story segments also surprised due to how sweet the story actually ends up being.

Definitely check this movie out, it is hilarious and made me laugh until it hurt. Seeing people's reactions to all the stuff Knoxville does is simply awesome and I loved every single second of this movie. Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa gets a 4.5/5

Prisoners Review

Prisoners is a new thriller starring Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Terrence Howard, Maria Bello, Viola Davis, Melissa Leo, and Paul Dano. The plot focuses on the abduction of two girls and the resulting search to find them. WOW, this movie was amazing from start to finish and hit me pretty hard too. It wouldn't surprise me if this got an Oscar nomination this year.

We have seen child abduction films before, but what makes this film so different is just how real it feels. Hugh Jackman plays one of the two fathers. His character is agressive throughout the film and Jackman pulls it off perfectly. You can see that he is so desperate to find his girl that he will do absolutely anything, no matter what. Terrence Howard plays the other dad. He is more of a calm character and tends to think about morality and ethics before taking any action. Viola Davis plays one of the mothers, and her character portrays the more quiet sadness while Maria Bello plays the louder type of sadness. Every emotion that a parent could ever feel in this type of situation is represented perfectly here. Anger, confusion, desperation, sadness, etc. It is all here. As for Jake Gyllenhaal he plays Detective Loki (weird name). He has basically solved every single case in his career, and you can see how much of a toll this one is taking on him. His scenes with Hugh Jackman are the best since their personalities and ideas are so different. The movie is very dialogue heavy, but it is written so well that I was never bored watching this. Mix that with the acting in this movie and DAMN.

It is hard to watch at times since it feels so real, and some of the violence is pretty brutal. I actually even ended up thinking about what it would be like if I had kids. Yeah, this movie is that good. It is a long movie but it never feels dragged out and every single scene matters. Prisoners is one of my favorite movies of the year and I definitely recommend it to anyone. Prisoners gets a 5/5

Top 5 Super Hero Movies Of 2013

2013 is almost over, and that means that all of the super hero movies have been released. We got 5 of those this year and I enjoyed all of them. What I'm going to do is to rank them all.

5. Kick-Ass 2: My least favorite super hero movie of the year was Kick-Ass 2. I really enjoyed this one, but not to the same degree as the first one. Some of the action scenes went the shaky cam route, and the jokes weren't quite as funny. There was no scene in which I went "That was better here than in the first". It is still a really fun movie though.

4. The Wolverine: The Wolverine is a really different super hero movie. It wasn't a huge effects filled blockbuster. Instead it was more of a character study. You get to know more of the character of Wolverine and how he actually feels about being who he is, and I liked that the film went this route because it actually works. This movie would have been a bit higher on the list, but the finale doesn't fit the tone set by the movie. The finale was your usual big super hero battle, and while it was enjoyable it just felt extremely out of place.

3. Thor: The Dark World: The last one to come out this year was the new Thor movie. The action scenes were awesome, it was really funny (except for Kat Dennings), and it advanced the Marvel Cinematic Universe. My problem was the villain. He was uninteresting and you never felt that Thor was in any danger against this guy. That is really the only problem I have with the movie though.

2. Iron Man 3: Yeah I know a lot of people have a lot of problems with the big twist in this movie, but I actually rolled with it and ended up loving every single second of this movie. It was funny as hell, the action sequences were terrific, and seeing 42 armors at the same time is really awesome. I also loved that Tony is basically having to start from scratch in this movie and has tu use his intellect to get out of situations without his armor.  I would have liked if the film did advance the Marvel Cinematic Universe in some way or another, but this was really more of a stand alone movie.

1. Man Of Steel: I LOVED THIS MOVIE. What I wanted out of this movie was to finally see Superman kicking ass, and man did I get that. The final fight in this movie was simply amazing and unbelievable. A lot of people say this movie had no character development, but I really don't mind that. We are getting sequels and there's going to be more time for character development there. This movie was made to show the world that Superman is a really kick ass character, and it delivered. There are some moments in this film that fans hated because they felt out of character, but I loved this scenes because they work for the type of story they are trying to tell and they didn't feel forced at all. Man Of Steel is my favorite super hero movie of 2013.

Thor: The Dark World Review

Thor: The Dark World is the new film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, and Anthony Hopkins. The basic premise is that the Dark Elves have returned and they are being led by Malekith. Malekith wants to use a weapon called the Aether to consume all of the nine realms into darkness (that includes earth too). If anyone that reads this knows me then you'll know that I am a pretty huge geek, specially when it comes to Marvel. Obviously I was geeking out waiting for this movie, and it actually was even better than what I imagined. 

The cast is great. Chris Hemsworth owns the role of Thor, and while his character has grown ever since Thor and The Avengers you can still feel the big ego this guy has. He plays the part perfectly and never makes Thor more serious than he needs to be. Natalie Portman is (obviously) fantastic too. Her scenes with Hemsworth were very cool because they actually interacted like a regular couple would. She is even mad at him because he never visited her while he was in New York during the events of The Avengers. Tom Hiddleston is without a doubt the best part of this movie though. He just owns the role of Loki and you never know if you can trust this guy or not. Loki is also humanized, and you actually feel for the dude during the movie. Anthony Hopkins is perfect too. I don't ever think that you'll hear me say Anthony Hopkins didn't do a good job in a movie. The story itself flows well and never gets too complicated which was something I was worried about during the beginning of the movie. One problem I do have though is with the villain Malekith, played by Christopher Eccleston (who does a good job aswell). The villain really isn't interesting at all. You never really know him at all. You only know that he wants to plunge the universe into darkness and that's it. He is actually the most uninteresting villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far. 

The action is spectacular in this movie. It is shot extremely well and I think that has something to do with director Alan Taylor who has directed various Game Of Thrones episodes. He really knows how to make all of the action in this movie feel big and epic. The visual effects were amazing and the final battle was simply FANTASTIC. The humour in this movie is also great just like in all Marvel movies. The other cool thing about this movie is the way in which it'll connect to upcoming MCU movies. The mid-credits scene got me extremely excited for what's to come, and a scene half-way through the movie is probably my favorite scene of the year. Thor: The Dark World is one of the best MCU movies yet, and it got me pumped for what's to come. Thor: The Dark World gets a 4.5/5

Carrie Review

Carrie is based on the Stephen King book of the same name. It stars Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore, and it follows a girl named Carrie who is bullied in school and finds out she has telekinetic powers. The film is supposed to be a horror movie but unfortunately it is not scary at all. I had heard a lot of bad stuff about this movie, but it isn't as bad as people say. It's not good but it really isn't that bad.

Chloe Moretz does a good job as Carrie. Her character is always bullied, and you'll find yourself rooting for this girl throughout the movie. Julianne Moore plays her mother. She is extremely religious to the point that everything is a sin. Her character is supposed to be creepy, but her dialogue actually made me want to laugh. She gives a good performance but her dialogue is so over the top and I simply didn't buy it. She is creepy when she starts to cut herself, and the way they show it is pretty disturbing. Props to that. The bullies here are also extreme. They even try to kill Carrie, and I doubt real bullies would ever try that. The bullies are also cliche, but at least there were a couple of the "popular kids" who were nice to Carrie. The CGI was pretty bad, and the climatic scene were Carrie goes nuts felt way too short which is a shame since I was actually enjoying it.

Carrie is a film that you just won't remember after a day or two. It isn't too bad, but it isn't good either. Maybe if the dialogue was better, and some scenes didn't make me want to laugh this would have been a good one. Carrie gets a 2.5/5

Blue Jasmine Review

Blue Jasmine is the new film by Woody Allen and stars Cate Blanchett. The movie basically focuses on the life of a wealthy woman after divorce, and after losing her wealth. The film is a comedy, and I honestly knew nothing about this movie going in. I have to say I enjoyed it.

Cate Blanchett kills it in this role. Her character is kind of going crazy, she isn't used to working and not being able to get what she wants and you completely buy it. The film is funny from time to time, but this is a movie that is not intended for young people. My showing was full of people over 50 and they were laughing hard at everything, and I surely didn't laugh as much as them. The dialogue feels real too, and the movie never becomes too serious which I liked. If it had been serious I would have been bored to death. My 2 problems with this film though are the editing and the music. The film goes from present day to the past, but there is no transition between them. One scene ends and suddenly you are in the past, you only know this when certain characters begin to appear, or due to the dialogue. If it were not for this I would have no idea that the movie switched from present to past. The music in the movie was my other problem. It really felt like old people music, and kind of sucked me out of the movie whenever it came up.

Other than those 2 problems this movie was very good and enjoyable. I guess I would have enjoyed it more if I was older, but it still made me laugh from time to time, and I actually liked the story itself. Blue Jasmine gets a 3.5/5

Metallica: Through The Never Review

Metallica: Through The Never is a new Metallica concert film. The film actually has a narrative, which already makes it different from other concert movies. The narrative basically has a roadie (played by Dane DeHaan) that is sent out to get a package that the band needs for the concert, but something is not quite right when he goes on this quest through the city. First of all, I'm a huge Metallica fan. I think they are like the greatest band on earth so obviously I was incredibly excited for this movie.

The concert itself is amazing. They played all of their best songs, and the stage itself was like nothing I had ever seen. They brought out the Lady Justice statue, the electric chair, basically everything. The 3D was great too, which is always good. The narrative itself though is were people might have a problem with this movie. You never know what is going on, they enver explain what the package is or what the hell happened. There is something I noticed though. The lyrics actually match with what is happening on screen, so the narrative is actually like a big music video for all the songs. I am dissapointed that they never explain what the hell was in the package though.

As a fan of Metallica I can say this movie was fantastic, but if you aren't a fan well I guess it is pretty obvious that this is not the film for you. The film has some really cool shots, awesome music, and a fantastic show. The only problem is the narrative, which is kind of made for people that know the lyrics of the songs. Metallica: Through The Never gets a 4.5/5

Rush Review

Rush is a sports drama directed by Ron Howard and starring Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl. The film is set in the 70's and tells the real life story of the rivalry between Formula 1 racers James Hunt (Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Brühl). I'll start off by saying that I have never seen Formula 1 racing in my life. I found it to be pretty uninteresting until watching this movie.

The film shows you how these two guys became rivals, and their relationship during the next few years. So the thing that makes this movie so great is the fact that it focuses on the two racers equally. Most films about rivalries tend to concentrate more on one characters than the other, and they also make the viewer root for only one of them. In this film you'll find yourself rooting for this two guys, since it shows you all the ups and downs BOTH of them went through during the events that happened here. Another aspect that is great is the rivalry itself. You get a sense of respect between the two of them, and both of them admired the other greatly. The racing sequences in this film were incredible. Every time one was about to start I got pumped, and you get an amazing sense of speed in every single one. The key thing that you get out of these scenes though is how dangerous Formula 1 racing really is. In one of the accidents shown in the film you see the driver in pain, and when the camera moves to his leg you can see the bone sticking out of the guys flesh. After watching this movie I definitely respect racers more, and I instantly got home and watched Formula 1 races on Youtube.

Rush is definitely a must see. Hemsworth and Brühl give great performances, and the racing sequences are simply amazing. The story about this rivalry is perfectly told, and balances both racers evenly. Rush gets a 4.5/5

Insidious: Chapter 2 Review

Insidious: Chapter 2 is the sequel to Insidious. It is once again directed by James Wan and stars Patrick Wilson once more. If you read my review for the first one you'll know that I really enjoyed that movie and found it really scary. This one picks up were the first one ended and once again this family is being haunted by ghosts. The big question is: Is it as scary as the first one?

Well, the answer is no. Actually the film isn't very scary at all, although it does have it's creepy moments here and there. I believe that this is due to the fact that James Wan had The Conjuring released only a few months ago and probably put all of his effort into that movie. What saves this film though is the story itself. It is still a ridiculous story, but like the first one what sells it is the acting and writing. Patrick Wilson was fantastic here and delivers an excellent performace. He truly stands out from the rest of the cast, although they all still did a good job. The pacing here is much faster than the first one and the story is pretty cool. The thing that I loved though is how they connected it to the first one. It was very cool and very smart how they did this. There are some creppy moments though, but the film ends up trying to use jump scares to scare the audience and not even those made me jump.

If you are looking to get scared Insidious: Chapter 2 is not for you, but the story itself is interesting enough as to justify a trip to the cinema to watch this. I hope that the third part is scarier than this since, after all, this is supposed to be a scary movie. Thank god it had a well written script and good acting, since that is what saved this movie. Insidious: Chapter 2 gets a 3/5

Insidious Review

Insidious is a 2010 horror film directed by James Wan. James Wan is probably most know today for The Conjuring, but before that he made this. I had heard that this movie was very scary, so I never got around to watching it. I finally did and yes, it is scary.

The story centers on a couple whose son inexplicably enters a comatose state and becomes a vessel for ghosts in an astral dimension. Yeah it is as goofy as it sounds, but the acting and the writing doesn't make it feel that way. Everyone does a great job here, which is pretty rare for a horror movie. One problem that I had though were this two characters that show up. They are basically paranormal investigators, but they're used as comic relief and ended up feeling like cartoons. They just felt out of place here. The film is still very scary though, but sometimes has some forced jump scares here and there. James Wan really builds tension here, and makes even some ridiculous things disturbing. It isn't as scary as The Conjuring though, but it still delivers some good scares here and there.

Insidious is a great horror film. It has great acting, great writing, and great directing. It does feel a little ridiculous if you put some thought into it, but it manages to scare and that is all that matter. It would have been better if the two comedic characters were not there, but it isn't that big of a deal. Insidious gets a 4/5

Captain Phillips Review

Captain Phillips is a film by Paul Greengrass based on the Maersk Alabama hijacking in 2009. Tom Hanks plays the captain himself, and as expected he does an amazing job. The emotions he conveys feel extremely real, and was probably how the real guy actually felt during this events. Someone that surprised the hell out of me was Barkhad Abdi. This guy plays the pirate leader and does a phenomenal job. With just one look at this guy you can feel that he really doesn´t want to be doing what he is doing. He makes his character human and not just a violent pirate.

Paul Greengrass is well known for making very intense films, and this one is no different. This film is intense from start to finish and is perfectly paced. The script is written very smartly, and you root for Captain Phillips and the rest of his crew all the way. The most important thing about this movie is that it keeps it real. It never tries to go too over the top, instead every scene feels realistic. Every action and every line said feels this way.

Captain Phillips is a fantastic film. It is well written, intense, and powerfully acted. It keeps it real all the time, and even manages to humanize the pirates. It wouldn't surprise me if this film got nominated for an academy award. Captain Phillips gets 4.5/5

Breaking Bad Review

Breaking Bad is without a doubt the best show I've seen. It follows Walter White (Bryan Cranston) who is a chemistry teacher in a regular high school. He gets diagnosed with lung cancer so he teams up with Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) to cook crystal meth so he can provide money for his family. I saw the whole series in the last couple of weeks and my head is going crazy right now. There is just so much stuff to talk about here... it is insane. 

I'll start by the writing. The writing in this show is fantastic. It feels so grounded in reality. For example if someone is put in a very tough situation that no one would actually get out of... that is precisely what happens. In other shows this rarely happens. The writers also make it very smart. Nothing ever feels dumb, and the whole show is planned out perfectly from the beginning.  What I love about this show the most are the characters. I love how they change throughout the show, specially Walter and Jesse. In the beginning Walt is just a regular, boring teacher. As the show moves on you start to see the change. The way he looks at people, the way he talks, his actions, everything. I love how the writers don't make him go bad instantly, but acutally make it a slow transformation. Bryan Cranston plays this guy perfectly. The whole change this guy goes through is done incredibly thanks to Cranston. If you watch the first episode and then the last one, you will notice how everything changes. Aaron Paul plays Jesse who is basically a junkie.  He teams up with Walter to cook meth, and let´s just say that this guy goes through a lot of shit in this show. There is a great scene in the third season were he says this to Walt: "Ever since I met you, everything I've ever cared about is gone, ruined, turned to shit, dead ever since I hooked up with the great Heisenberg.  I have never been more alone, I have nothing, no one alright it´s all gone get it?" So yeah, by the end of the show this guy is completely broken and you can tell just by looking at him in one of his final scenes.  This guy nearly brought me to tears a couple of times, and that is also in great part to Aaron Paul's performance. He makes Jesse such a vulnerable character with so many issues, and the way that he is written is so perfect you just end up caring about this dude. Anna Gunn plays Skyler which is Walt´s wife. A lot of people say her character is a bitch, but the show is intended to be realistic. All of her actions are what someone would actually do in a situation like this. Throughout the first 2 season she has no idea of Walter´s second life. So when she finally finds out, shit really gets real for Walt.  He does what he does for his family, but he ends up destroying it because of it. Then you have Skyler´s sister Marie, and her husband Hank. Hank is a D.E.A agent (and a badass one), so Walter basically even has family trying to get him. This makes for some awesome scenes between him and Hank. There´s Walter Jr. who is Walt´s son. He is the character that can always tell right from wrong, so he is basically one of the only truly good guys in this show. All of the actors in this show are phenomenal. There isn´t one single person in this show that does a mediocre job, and that is one hell of an accomplishment. The villains in this show are fantastic. You have Tuco who is this extremely violent asshole, then there is Gus Fring who is the type of quiet and well mannered villain, and then there is Todd. I fucking hate that dude. You really have to see the final season to undestand why I hate that dude so much.

The show itself feels like one big movie. There is no episode that fills like filler. This show is like a big puzzle, and everything has an effect on everything. Something that happened in the first season might affect the last one for example. Another great thing about this show is that there is no bad season. Most shows have a season that isn´t very good, well not here. Every season gets better and better, and the final season (specially the final three episode) is probably the best thing I´ve ever seen. The final season is just crazy, and the episode titled "Ozymandias" is just a masterpiece. Here you see just how big of a monster Walter has become. This episode was just devastating and sick, and I was on the edge of my seat watching this. The way the series ended was just perfect. It was bitter-sweet, and it tied up everything perfectly. There are no loose ends here and it gave the perfect conclusion to the greatest show ever. It's going to be a long time before another show like this turns up. 

Breaking Bad is perfect. You care about every single character in this show. It will shock you, make you laugh, cry, etc. It gave us Walter White who is the most real character I've ever seen. There is a line that he says to his wife in the final episode that just made him so realistic for me, and really summed up the kind of person he is. To see such a good and honest guy become such a monster in such a realistic way was fantastic. Breaking Bad is the greatest show ever, and everyone should watch this without a doubt. Breaking Bad gets a well deserved 5/5

Runner Runner Review

Runner Runner is the new crime thriller starring Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake. The story is pretty simple. Timberlake's character loses all of his money on a poker site, so he can't pay for college anymore. When he finds out he was cheated he decides to go visit the owner (Affleck) and he is suddenly hired to work for him.

I was actually looking forward to watching this movie. It had a good cast and an interesting premise. I'll start off with the acting. None of the acting is bad, it's just average all around. Nobody really gives a great performance with the exception of Affleck who really was awesome in the role. The writing in the movie doesn't help either. Most of the movie is just people talking and talking and talking. The problem is that the script is really boring. No one ever says anything very interesting, and the characters are not interesting at all. All the events that happen throughout the movie are never really explained too well. For example: You never really know why Affleck hires Timberlake. It just happens for the sake of the story. There's also a lot of plot points that end up going nowhere, and the film is also very predictable from start to finish. It might have been better if there was any sort of action here, but there's very little of it. When there is action though it is filmed horribly and you can barely tell what is going on.

Runner Runner wastes it's cast and interesting premise completely. It's not an awful movie, but it is very boring. The acting, writing, and directing are all uninspired and just make for a very predictable and boring movie. Runner Runner gets 1.5/5

Evil Dead Review

Evil Dead is both a reboot and a loose continuation of The Evil Dead series. The basic plot follows a group of friends in a cabin. Inside this cabin they find a book, and after reading from it all hell breaks loose. So anyone that has seen the Red Band trailer of this movie pretty much knows why this movie is so famous everywhere. The answer: It is the bloodiest movie ever made.

I was very excited when I went to watch this movie. After I watched it I was both kind of dissapointed, but satisfied in a way. What dissapointed me was the fact that the movie itself really isnt too scary. It has it's creepy moments, but you never feel actually scared throughout it. The characters make some stupid choices, but it isn't too stupid either. For example, they  explain why they are not leaving the cabin in a very smart way instead of just having them stay there for the sake of the movie. I was satisfied with the insane amount of blood in the movie. There is blood everywhere here, and the kills are extremely gory and brutal. During the whole finale of this movie it´s literally raining blood, and the whole screen looked red. Yeah, this movie is the bloodiest movie I have ever seen and it was awesome.

Evil Dead does lack the humor from the other films in the series, and it is way too serious for my liking, specially for a movie of this type. I wish they had more fun with this movie insted of being so serious the whole time. Evil Dead is pretty entertaining the whole time, and a bloody good time (see what I did there?). Evil Dead gets a 3.5/5

The Heat Review

The Heat is a new buddy cop comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa Mccarthy. The basic premise follows an FBI agent teaming up with a Boston Police Officer as they try to bust this big drug lord. Going into this movie I was worried about one thing: Melissa Mccarthy. I thought that she was going to over do it, or act to over the top. At times this happened, but thank god that it almost never did. If it had happened this movie wouldn't have been as funny as it was.

The Heat is really funny, and I think that it's thanks to Bullock's and Mccarthy's great chemistry. The dynamic between them is great, and makes for some really hilarious moments. Mccarthy gets the best moments though, as her character is funny in (almost) every single scene. The movie is pretty cliche though, as every single plot point is completely predictable. I really wish that this type of films were a bit more original. It would have been more enjoyable if I didn't know where every single plot point was going to go. Even the big twist was predictable.

Is The Heat the funniset movie of the year? No, but it is a really good time at the movies and I definitely would recommend it. it is predictable, but very very funny and has great performances from Bullock and Mccarthy. The Heat gets 3.5/5

Curse Of Chucky Review

Curse Of Chucky is the brand new Chucky film. It was released direct to video a couple of days ago, and it goes back to the series original tone. This one basically has Chucky killing a whole family inside this huge house. Gone is the bride, and the kid (thank god). Instead of that we get the best Chucky movie ever.

Out of all the Chucky movies, this one has the creepiest atmosphere. The whole movie takes place mostly at night. Every scene is dark, and actually tries to at least build up some tension. The kills are another great thing about this movie. There's some really bloody and gory kills here, and I couldn't have been happier with that. The story itself is very cool and I love how it tied to the first movie itself. The only bad thing about this movie is that you really don't get to see Chucky actually killing people until the second half. The first half is a bit slow, although there is one particular dinner scene that I loved.

Curse Of Chucky is definitely the best one. It actually surprised me since it was a direct to video movie (and those tend to suck), but this one was awesome. Oh, and the after credits scene was just the best scene in the whole series. Curse Of Chucky gets a 4/5

Seed Of Chucky Review

Seed Of Chucky is the fifth installment in the Chucky series, and takes an even more comedic route than the last one. It takes place right after the last one, with Chucky's son being born. The film as a whole takes place in Hollywood, and it sucked... a lot.

My problem with Seed Of Chucky is that it feels more like a comedy than a horror movie. The fact that it is set in Hollywood doesn´t help, as it is filled with pop culture references that just seem out of place for a Chucky movie. For example: Chucky kills Britney Spears in this movie... yeah, it's that bad. I still prefer this one over Child's Play 3 though, because at least this one is kind of entertaining. This one is still a big piece of shit though. The son in this movie has the most horrible voice ever, the acting is horrible, the jokes don't work, and there are some truly ridiculous scenes in the one (Chucky is shown masturbating....).

Just avoid this movie, it truly sucks. The movie just tried to go for full on comedy, but that definitely did not work. At least it is more fun than the third film, but that really isn't saying much. It has some cool kills, but the amount of stupidity in this movie just amazes me. Seed Of Chucky gets a 1.5/5

Bride Of Chucky Review

Bride Of Chucky is the fourth installment in the Chucky series. Just like the title says, in this movie Chucky gets himself a wife and together they try to find a way to get back to their human form. So this film is actually a horror/comedy. At this point the creators thought it was a good idea to embrace the ridiculousness of this series. I am glad they did.

I'll start by saying that I hated Child's Play 3. It was boring and dull, part of the problem was the serious tone it had. Thank god they changed that here. The film has a ton of jokes and even makes fun of itself, but it never goes too overboard with the comedy and balances it with the horror aspect. The addition of Tiffany (Chucky's bride) was great, and makes the film even more entertaining. Another good thing is the fact that Chucky is present alot more in this film than in the others, and he is really funny here. There were some parts were the movie got a little too ridiculous, but it didn't happen too often. The acting in the movie is pretty terrible, with the exception of Brad Dourif as Chucky.

Overall this movie was a big improvement over the last two movies. It still wasn't as good as the first one, but it was a lot of fun. Thank god they changed the tone for this film, otherwise it would have probably sucked like the third one did. Bride Of Chucky gets a 3/5

Gravity Review

Gravity is a film directed by Alfonso Cuaron and starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. The film is basically a survival story, as Bullock's character is stranded in space when an accident happens. Wow, this movie was simply amazing. Everything about this movie is simply fantastic. From the opening shot I knew that I was in for something special.

This movie made my heart beat faster than any other movie this year, and that is no small feat. You're rooting for Bullock's character the whole movie, and you really get to know this character throughout the movie. She should be nominated for an Oscar without a doubt for this role. She was simply terrific. George Clooney plays this veteran astronaut. He is basically the guy that tries to keeps Bullock's character cool throughout the movie. He is the one that lets her relax, and tells her what to do. The film itself is a masterpiece. I'll start with the sound itself. In space there is no sound (I think everyone knows that) so the film is basically silent. Even the explosions are silent, and let me tell you... it really is more intense this way. You only hear the characters voices, the things that the character's hear inside the suits, and the music. The musical score here by the way is amazing, and I loved it. The visual effects are the best I've seen all year. The film looks as if it was actually shot in space, and nothing looks fake at all. The story moves at a good pace, and it is never boring. I love how Cuaron holds every shot for as long as he can, and there are some simply stunning shots in here. The movie sucks you in completely, and makes you feel a ton of emotions throughout. 

Gravity is a masterpiece. Everything in this movie is excellent: the acting, sound, visuals, script, etc. After watching this I do not want to go to space. Being stranded there really is the shittiest situation any one could ever go through. There are alot of themes hidden in this movie too, and the are great. Gravity is one of my favorite movies of the year and without a doubt gets a 5/5 

Child's Play 3 Review

Child's Play 3 is the third film in the Chucky series and continues the story of Andy Barclay. 8 years have passed since the second film and Andy is now in a military school. So Chucky tracks him down to try and get his soul inside of Andy's body. I am now tired of this series , I really am. It feels the same as the other two, but with worse quality, and I say this for a ton of different reasons.

The first reason: They never explain how Chucky comes back. He just suddenly is alive and in a new body. This is why he is still trying to transfer his soul. If it had been the old body, he couldn't have transferred it. It just feels so forced, and a really lazy way to bring back the character. No explanation, no nothing.
Second reason: The effects are terrible. Chucky himself looked 10x better in the second movie. Now he looks completely fake. There are some kills that look terrible aswell, and you can see the prosthetics on the actors and all.
Third reason: None of the characters are interesting. Not even Andy. He was a better character when he was young. The other characters are all douches, and I wished Chucky killed all of them... even Andy.
Fourth reason: There is a scene in the moment that had a ton of potential. It was basically capture the flag with paint ball bullets. Chucky replaces them before the game to real bullets. I'll just say that when this happened I got really excited because it was the perfect opportunity to show just how menacing Chucky really is. Let's just say that I was extremely dissapointed later on.
Fifth reason: The movie is all over the place, it never really takes the time to explain what it happening, and there are alot of conveniences. For example, a fun park in the middle of the fucking forest.
Final reason: It is boring, really boring. Most of the kills are off-screen, the finale sucked, and even the characters were boring as hell. Chucky really hit a low point with this one.

The only good thing about this movie is Chucky. Other than that this movie really sucked, and I wish that they strayed from the formula for once. It feels like a forced sequel and really doesn't deserve anyones time. I'm giving Child's Play 3 1.5/5

Riddick Review

Riddick is the third film in The Chronicles Of Riddick series. Vin Diesel plays the title character and the story is pretty simple: Riddick is left for dead in a desolate planet, and he now has to fight against monsters and some bounty hunters. I thought the first film Pitch Black wasn't anything special and The Chronicles Of Riddick just sucked, so I was surprised that I actually enjoyed this one. I think that what makes this one better than the rest is the fact that it is so simple. You have the first act of the movie which is only Riddick trying to survive this planet on his own. The second act is basically him against the bounty hunters, and the third is a team up between Riddick and the bounty hunters against the monsters that inhabit the planet.

Vin Diesel is great as Riddick, and it looks like he really enjoys playing this character. The other actors do their job well enough, but no one really stands out. The cgi looks great in some scenes, but in others it looks fake. I really don't know why it is so inconsistent. The pacing in this movie is kind of slow, but it is always entertaining which is kind of weird. I would have liked a little bit more backstory for Riddick though, since I never felt like I knew the character too much. One big plus for this movie are some of the kills, which were really great (and gory). 

Riddick was a really big surprise for me. I ended up enjoying the movie more than I thought I would, and it entertained me throughout. The ending was extremely abrupt though. The movie just ends all of a sudden. When you see it you'll know what I'm talking about. It has it's slow parts, but it is a fun time so I'll give Riddick 3.5/5

Child's Play 2 Review

Chilld's Play 2 picks up right where the first one left off. Chucky is back, and he still needs to get his soul inside of Andy (the main kid from the first one). So is this as good as the first one? Not at all. My main problem is that this movie is basically the same as the last one, as it follows the same plot lines. For example: When Chucky starts tormenting Andy no one believes him, and everything that happens is blamed on him. This is just one example of the many things this movie copies off from the first one.

Another problem is that the kills aren´t reall that cool (with the exception of one), and thhere aren't many either. The film also has a serious tone to it, but there are a lot of moments that were completely ridiculous and actually made me laugh when I wasn´t supposed to. The film is kind of entertaining, but you have seen all of the events that happen here before and it is very predictable from start to finish. Chucky is still a cool character though, and he is the best part of the movie for sure, it would have been better if he killed people in more creative ways.

Child's Play 2 tries to replicate the first one but fails at doing so. There is some fun to be had, but it really isn't as cool as the first one. The energy from the first one isn't here, and the whole film feels forced. Even the way that Chucky comes back is weird and really never exlplained properly. I'm giving Child's Play 2 a 2.5/5

Child's Play Review

Child's Play is the first film in the Chucky series. The film is basically about a killer that before he dies, manages to transport his soul into a doll. The doll ends up in the hands of a kid, and we all know how it goes on from there. I have to admit it... I like this film. It has such a goofy plot, but the way it is executed is actually pretty good. The film is a horror movie about a killer doll.... it sounds goofy as hell but it is really entertaining.

The film is very energetic from start to finish, and is also smartly written. It has some very cool lines, and none of the characters were stupid at all. In most horror movies they tend to make the characters very stupid, and thank god this film didn´t go that route since it would have made the story of a killer doll even more goofy. The movie moves along at a perfect pace, never going way too fast, but never going too slow as to bore you. Chucky has become such an iconic character thanks to this film, and the reason because of that is the way he is written. Everything coming out of this doll's mouth is great, and you can really get a feel to how evil this doll is.

Child's Play is surprisingly good, and is a blast from start to finish. The plot is very goofy, but it somehow manages to ignore that and make a very enjoyable film to watch. I'll review the other 5 Chucky films this week so check back to read those. I'm rating Child's Play 3.5/5 

Pain & Gain Review

Pain & Gain is the new film by Michael Bay. It follows the Sun Gym Gang murders ( which you can read all about here http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/blog/article/the-brutal-crimes-of-the-sun-gym-gang/index.html ) and stars Mark Whalberg, Dwayne Johnson, and Anthony Mackie. When the film starts you know it is a Michael Bay film. Everything from the shots, to the slow-mo, to the color scheme just screams Michael Bay. I personally really like his films since I find them very entertaining, but the thing with this one is that the subject matter is something very serious and at times Bay makes it feel as if it really isn´t. The film is very entertaining but the subject matter should have been dealt with in a different way. For example: The film focuses on the bad guys, but makes them very likeable and makes it seem as if they are the good guys. You could obviously view this as Bay trying to make the film completely from their point of view, but it seems questionable at times.

Another problem I had was that the movie is way too fast. It is constantly cutting from scene to scene, and focusing on so many different things at the same time. I wish they would have made the movie a bit slower, and not so lightning fast. The actors all do a great job with Dwayne Johnson doing the best job. Also have in made that even the most weird things that happen in the movie actually did happen, which makes the whole film very interesting.

Pain & Gain is an entertaining and interesting film that could have been much better if it was a bit slower paced, and took the subject matter a little more seriously. I would actually recommend watching this just because it is so interesting to know how this whole case happened, and trust me, this is one hell of a weird case. I´m giving Pain & Gain 3/5

Freddy vs. Jason Review

Freddy vs. Jason was a film that pitted Freddy from A Nightmare On Elm Street against Jason from Friday The 13th. The story followed Freddy trying to become powerful again. To do this he revives Jason and sends him to Springwood on a killing spree. This way people would think Freddy was the killer and once again fear him, bringin power back to Freddy. Obviously things don´t go as planned and Freddy ends up having to battle Jason.

The film features a group of teenagers (as always) trying to stop the killings that are happening. The actors really aren´t that good, but I don´t think anyone was expecting good acting from this movie. What I wanted was really good kills, and a great battle. The Jason kills are awesome and he really kills a ton of people in this movie. Freddy on the other hand... only gets 1 kill. This really dissapointed me since Freddy has the most creative kills ever. It really sucked that Freddy only got to kill 1 person and that was it. The epic fight though is pretty awesome. It is very well done and features lots of gore. It was also a long one, which was something I was hoping for. I would have been pissed if the fight was short. Jasons kills and the fight alone really make this one a fun time. I was never bored, but I wasn´t scared either. As always, this film uses jump scares to try and scare the viewer but they really don´t work either.

The CGI in this movie was pretty bad, and took me out of the movie a few times. Freddy vs. Jason could have been so much better if Freddy actually got to kill more than 1 guy. At least there were some pretty cool Jason kills, and the final fight was awesome too. The film actually had a perfect ending, which surprised me since I thought the ending was going to suck. Freddy vs. Jason gets 3/5

A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984) Review

A Nightmare On Elm Street is one of the few slasher movies that can actually really scare the shit out of you. This was Freddy Kruegers first appearance, and the movie is basically a film about a killer that kills you in your dreams. The premise itself is what makes this movie so scary. If you fall asleep you die, and I don´t think there is nothing worse than not being able to sleep.

The film itself was unlike anything ever seen. It was a slasher film and was basically just Freddy killing people, but the kills were just awesome since it all happened in the dream world. In the dream world anything is possible, and the movie is never boring thanks to this. Another cool aspect is that you are never sure when a character is asleep or not. The film keeps you on your toes, becuase you have no idea when Freddy is going to appear. The acting is also great and the film never goes for a too serious tone, which in my opinion not too many horror films can pull off and was the reason why the remake wasn´t as much fun as this.

This movie os just one of the few horror movies that gets everything right, and it keeps the viewer entertained throughout. There is never a dull moment, and it´s awesome to see so many imaginative kills too. A Nightmare On Elm Street is a classic and is a movie that should be seen by everyone. I´m giving A Nightmare On Elm Street a 5/5

Friday The 13th (2009) Review

In 2009 Friday The 13th was rebooted. We got a new movie that showed how Jason became a killer, how he got the mask, etc. The story was about a group of friends who go to a cabin in the woods to party. Then theres a guy looking for his sister that disappeared around that same area, and since they are all in Jasons territory... he starts killing everyone.

I think this was the first horror movie I ever watched in theaters. As a movie it is pretty bad, but I don´t think anyone watches Friday The 13th for a good story or acting. You want to see cool kills and blood, and this movie did a good job with that. There were some really cool kills, but there were a couple that were kind of boring and unimaginative. Something that I really liked about this one though is the fact that Jason runs. He never runs in the other movies, but here it is a bit more intense since he will actually run after everyone. My biggest problem with this movie is that there was way too much sex and nudity. It´s a Friday The 13th movie so I expected that, but I felt like I was watching porn sometimes. There was just way too much sex and naked girls, and I would have preferred to get more kills rather than that.

Is this movie scary? Well... no. It might get the blood pumping, but it isn´t scary at all. There are some jump scares that got me though, but I always feel as if jump scares are the cheapest way to scare someone. Friday The 13th is just a fun, dumb movie to watch with friends. The characters really aren´t too stupid, so the movie won´t really annoy anyone. I´m giving Friday The 13th a 3/5

Dragon Ball Z: La Batalla De Los Dioses

Esta vez escribire en español, ya que es la mejor manera de expresar como me senti durante esta pelicula. Dragon Ball Z era mi serie favorita cuando estaba chiquito, asi que obviamente estaba extremadamente emocionado por ver esto. La ultima que vi fue Dragon Ball Evolution (que fue una mierda) asi que estaba feliz de que esta fuera animada.

Para resumir: La pelicula fue la monda. Asi de simple. Las peleas estuvieron la verga, dio risa, y fue de lo mejor ver a todos los personajes otra vez. El unico problema que tuve fue el final. El final fue pesimo, y hubiera preferido que terminara de otra manera.

Dragon Ball Z: La Batalla De Los Dioses fue de lo mejor. La animacion fue excelente, y fue entretenida todo el tiempo. Ojala hubieran cambiado el final, pero de resto ame esta pelicula. Ojala hagan mas de estas. Le dare a Dragon Ball Z: La Batalla De Los Dioses 4.5/5

Dark Skies Review

I knew nothing about this movie when I was going in. I had no idea what the story was and I hadn´t seen any trailers. Dark Skies is a sci-fi horror movie starring Keri Russell, and it is basically about this family and how they deal with an alien invasion. The story was actually pretty interesting, and Keri Russell did a good job. The problem is that some of the other actors tend to over do it. There are some genuinely scary moments in this film, but there are a ton of moments that end up being funny instead of scary.

Another problem with this movie is that it is full of jump scares, there were a lot of those in here. They felt forced and I would have prefered more of the actual scary scenes in the movie. This movie was definitely not as bad as it could have been, but that really isn´t saying much. This movie had some actual potential, and was scary from time to time. The problem is that sometimes it felt comedic, and all the jump scares happening every five seconds felt extremely forced.

Dark Skies is a movie that really isn´t worth watching. If you want a movie like this, you´re better off watching Signs. Not as bad as it could have been, but it still is a bad movie. I´m giving Dark Skies a 2/5 

Sinister Review

Sinister is a 2012 supernatural horror film directed by Scott Derrickson and stars Ethan Hawke. It follows a true-crime writer, played by Hawke, as he discovers a box of home movies that puts his family in danger. Sinister is one of the few movies that actually managed to scare movie. The very first shot of the movie was superb, and when I saw that shot I knew that I was about to watch a genuinely scary movie.

I´ll start off by saying that Sinister had a very cool story, which was told with the help of some video tapes. This tapes were the best part of the movie, since they were really disturbing. The tapes also had stuff hidden in them, like those "when you see it" pictures. The movie itself was also pretty scary, but there were a few cheap scares (a.k.a jump scares). The whole cast was fantastic, and managed to make the goofy parts seem very serious. When I actually think about the story I realize just how goofy it really was, but the script and the actors really manage to sell it. The boogey man is also creepy as hell, and he is what links all the tapes together.

The film is pretty scary and disturbing, but there are some cheap scares here and there. The music is great and the lighting is always spot on, building even more tension throughout the whole movie. The ending is very twisted and disturbing too, but as I said if you start to think too much about it... it is pretty goofy. I am going to give Sinister a 4.5/5

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D Season 1 Episode 2 "0-8-4" Review

The new episode of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D is here, and I was actually surprised by it. I was expecting the show to go with a villain of the week format. That means that every week they would have to battle a new supervillain and that would be it. This is not the case. In this episode the team has to go to Peru and retrieve a 0-8-4 which is basically an unknow object (like a particular hammer they found). The show still has awesome references to the movie, and the characters are starting to develop and to form relationships with each other,

The action was better this time around, although there was one implausibility that kind of bothered me and seemed a bit too goofy. The main story for the season is starting to take shape, but the best thing was the final scene. I wasn´t expecting it at all and i just loved it. I hope that we see more scenes like that in the future.

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D is getting better, and I am really excited to see what´s next. The show is definitely on the right track, and I hope we get some more direct connections to the movies rather than just references. I am giving this episode a 4.5/5

The Cabin In The Woods Review

October is finally here, so I wanted to write a review every day for a horror film. I want to start off with one of my favorite movies of all time: The Cabin In The Woods. It is written by Joss Whedon (AWESOME) and directed by Drew Goddard. Chris Hemsworth plays the lead, and the film is a horror/comedy film. It takes the horror movie genre and deconstructs it to it´s core. All of the stupid cliches are made fun of here, but not in a Scary Movie type of way, but in an extremely smart type of way.

The movie portrays five friends who travel to a remote cabin for a holiday and become victims of a seemingly stereotypical horror movie plot while being observed via hidden cameras by mysterious office workers. You have the jock, the hottie, the cutie, the stoner, and the smart guy are all here. All of the cliches are here, as are all the monsters ever invented. The movie grabs all the cliches, characters, and monsters from horror movies and puts them together in one very smart film. It´s funny when it needs to be, and scary when it needs to be too. The cast is great, giving excellent performances and they look to be having fun as well. The film is HUGELY entertaining, and I wasn´t bored once. 

I highly recommend this movie to anyone, it is extremely smart and very entertaining. Great writing, great acting, great directing, great EVERYTHING. I love this movie and The Cabin In The Woods definitely gets a 5/5.

Elysium Review

Elysium is the spiritual follow up to District 9. It is directed by Neil Blomkamp and features Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, and Sharlto Copley. The plot of the film is as follows: In the future Earth is overpopulated, poluted, and really not the best place to be. People get sick all the time, the law is very strict, and it basically sucks. Meanwhile the rich people live in Elysium. Elysium is a place in space where there is no poverty, war, or sickness. So Matt Damon is on a quest to get up to Elysium (for reasons I won´t spoil) and there are people after him because of this.

So I was very excited for Elysium. I loved District 9, so I couldn´t wait for Blomkamps next film. Elysium surely is great, but isn´t as amazing as District 9. I´ll start with the positives now. The script is very well written, and while District 9 tackled issues like racism, this one tackles issues like healthcare and equality head on. The visual effects are amazing, and the film has some really awesome shots too. Matt Damon is great in the role, but Sharlto Copley just stole the show. He plays the villain Krueger, and this guy is menacing... very menacing. Every time he is on screen you just feel that this guy is just insane, and you just feel the evilness of the character. Jodie Foster on the other hand wasn´t really that good. Her character was kind of annoying, and she has this weird accent throughout the movie that I hated. Her lines are lip synced too, and it is very noticeable. The action scenes are really cool, but there is some slight use of shaky cam. I really wish that they hadn´t used it.

Even though I excpected Elysium to be better, I still really enjoyed this movie. Neil Blomkamp is a great director and I can´t wait for his next film. I still have some issues with the movie, but they are minor and don´t detract too much from the experience. I´m giving Elysium a 4/5.

The Purge Review

The Purge is a new home invasion horror movie starring Ethan Hawke. The film takes place in the year 2022 and the U.S has one day called the purge day a year. When this day comes murdering, raping, stealing, etc is legal for 12 hours and all emergency services become unavailable. The idea itself is really cool, but it is completely wasted with how this whole film was executed.

First off the film is a home invasion movie. Some guys get into the house and you know what happens next. I was expecting the movie to be entertaining, but it is completely boring. Nothing really goes on for most of the movie, and when shit (finally) hits the fan... it ends in like 5 minutes. Another negative is that the film is not scary at all. Like not even the jump scares work. There is no tension whatsoever in this film. All the characters are completely stupid, with the exception of Ethan Hawke. His character is actually smart, and Hawke gives a good performance as always.

The film also tries to act as a social allegory. It tries to be a smart film by making us think: if a day like the purge ever existed, would we really kill? The problem is it never really explores this well enough, and certain characters seem bipolar at times. There's a certain character who says that purging is wrong, and in the next scene (literally the next scene) she is completely cool with it to ths point of agreeing to kill, but near the end she is against it again. I really don't know what was going on through the writers mind as he wrote this movie.

The Purge could have been something really special. It takes a really cool idea, one talented actor, and wastes them completely. It was boring, stupid, and not even remotely scary. I hope that the sequel will actually take this great idea, and actually make an interesting film. The whole concept of people being able to kill legally for 12 hours is something very interesting, and could make for a very smart film that could really explore the pros and cons of it, and the psychological aspect of it too. I'm giving The Purge 1/5

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D Season 1 Episode 1 "Pilot" Review

Well, it is finally here. Agents Of S.H.IE.L.D is a new show that´s a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It takes place after The Avengers (my favorite movie of all time) and basically follows a group of S.H.I.E.L.D agents led by agent Coulson who was presumed dead. I am a huge geek and I had been waiting for this show ALOT. It was great.

The pilot is basically about the group of agents tracking this new "superhero". I won´t spoil anything, so that´s as much as I will tell you about the plot. The pilot was great, introducing you to new characters and also bringing back some old ones. Most notably Coulson, who has returned from the dead. I actually liked how they explained this, and made me love the character even more. Action wise don´t expect something big and epic like in The Avengers. This is a T.V show so there are limitations, but the action was actually very enjoyable and well shot. The visual effects are great for a T.V show too, but the best thing about the pilot is the writing. It was written (and directed) by Joss Whedon himself, and he is great as always. The characters have great interaction with one other, it is funny, and filled with references to the movies and comics which I loved.

I can´t wait to watch more episodes from this show, and I am really excited to see how well it will connect with the movies. The pilot was a really good start for this show, and really gives you an idea as to how this show will play out. I am giving the first episode of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D 4/5

A Haunted House Review

A Haunted House is a spoof film made by the guys that created Scary Movie, and I can say that this is better than Scary Movie 5. The film primarily spoofs Paranormal Activity, and has various references to other movies, but it stays focused on just one movie and it makes the film more enjoyable because of this. Comedy wise I did laugh a couple of times here, but there were never any huge laugh out loud moment that stood out.

The film has a lot of jokes that just don´t work, and it felt uncomfortable when this happened because no one in the theatre would laugh. One of the big problems with the movie is that they tend to make "funny" scenes longer than they should. If they were shorter they would have worked, but they keep dragging them out and the scene becomes plain unfunny. The acting here is nothing special, and it´s a shame since there are some talented actors here.

I do have to say that I liked this more than I thought I would, but it still isn´t a good movie. There are funny moments, but then there are forced jokes and dragged out scenes that don´t work. I hope the sequel is better (yes, they are currently filming it). I´m giving A Haunted House 1.5/5

Kick-Ass 2 Review

I will start off by saying that I loved the first Kick-Ass. It was funny, ultra-violent, and portrayed the dangers of being a superhero very well. You get more of that here, but this one focuses more on superhero teams, and supervillain teams. It also focuses on Hit-Girl´s identity crisis as she goes into high school.

I will say that I really enjoyed this movie, but I still think the first one is better., and here is why. During the action scenes in this one, I noticed that there was some shaky cam used from time to time. The weird thing is that most of the action scenes are well shot, but suddenly the shaky cam starts, and then it goes back to normal. Another issue I had was Jim Carrey. He was great in the movie, but was not given as much screen time as I wanted. The comedy is still great in this one, and I really enjoyed the Hit-Girl storyline. All of the actors do a great job too, and are even better here than in the last one.

So while not as awesome as the first one, I still really enjoyed Kick-Ass 2. It is filled with violence, comedy, and the villains in this movie are just really awesome. This movie is a blast from start to finish, and I would definitely recommend that everyone checks it out... except kids (and my showing was filled with little kids). I´m giving Kick-Ass 2 4/5

We´re The Millers Review

We´re The Millers is a new comedy featuring Jason Sudeikis, and Jennifer Aniston. Sudeikis plays a drug dealer, who after losing his boss´s money (played by Ed Helms) is tasked with smuggling weed from Mexico over to the U.S.A. To do this Sudeikis hires Aniston, Emma Roberts, and Will Poulter to pretend they are a family and cross the border unnoticed.

First thing´s first: This movie is pretty funny. You laugh throughout the whole movie, and there are a couple of big laughs to be had here. I was surprised because after seeing the trailer I thought that it didn´t look all that funny. All of the actors did a great job, but my problem with the movie is that it was all too predictable. Even some jokes were kind of brought down a bit for me because I knew exactly what was going to happen next. There´s the annoying but good hearted family that always appear in this type of road trip movies, there´s the bad guys chasing them as usually happens when there are drugs involved, etc. It all feels familiar, but at least you can have a good laugh with it.

So while predictable, the movie still manages to be funny throughout, but this isn´t something that you have got to see in the theatre. It´s a good time, but it still has it´s problem here and there. I wasn´t sure what to rate We´re The Millers, but I´m going with a 3/5.

You´re Next Review

Going into You´re Next I was expecting a regular home invasion horror film. As the movie started I noticed that this wasn´t going that route. The film was actually filled with black comedy blended with horror, and it worked pretty well. So if you go into this movie expecting a scary horror movie you will be dissapointed. This movie isnt supposed to be serious, and the tone of the film completely reflects this.

The bad thing about this movie is the first half. The acting was terrible, and it felt completely cliché. It was just a bunch of people getting killed and that was about it. Suddenly, the second half starts and the plot actually becomes alot better, and we are left with the most kick ass female protagonist ever. We get to see her set up very smart and cool traps throughout the house, and I really started to enjoy the hell out of this movie. The girl could easily beat any guy up, and I liked that they explained how she learned all of this. There are a couple of very awesome kills too, and the ending was (for my twisted mind) awesome.

You´re Next may have horrible acting, and may feel very cliche at first, but once the second half kicks in you will really enjoy this movie. Lots of dark humor, some awesome kills, very smart script, and an awesome female protagonist that really holds her own make this a very entertaining movie (after the first 45 minutes).

I´m giving You´re Next 3/5  

White House Down Review

If you watched Olympus Has Fallen, you have seen White House Down. White House Down stars Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx. Channing Tatum is trying to get into the secret service when a terrorist attack hits the white house. Now he is the only one who can save the president played by Jamie Foxx.

I´ll start by saying that I enjoyed this one more than Olympus Has Fallen. The plot is the same, but this one feels more energetic. It has more action scenes, and the president actually gets to kick some ass in this one. Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx have great chemistry, and have some funny back and forth throughout the movie. The film also doesn´t take itself too seriously like Olympus Has Fallen, and that is a really big plus for this one. There are problems though, the first one being the CGI. It is pretty terrible. Even the green screen looks fake, and once you watch it you will know what I mean. Another problem I had is that the film takes a while to get going, maybe a good 20-30 minutes, but when it gets going it is pretty cool.

I had fun with this one. It has great action, some good laughs, but the CGI just took me out of the movie a lot of times. It isn´t as violent as Olympus Has Fallen, but I really don´t mind. I enjoyed the action here more and therefore I am giving White House Down 3.5/5

The Internship Review

The Internship is basically a big Google Commercial. It really is. The film stars Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, and the plot basically follows them after losing their jobs and becoming interns at Google. During this internship there are various groups completing various challenges, and the team with the most points will get to work full time at Google. I bet you know how this film is going to play out just by reading that.

The film really doesn´t do anything wrong, and it plays it safe. That´s the problem. You know where every single plot point is going to go at the start of the film, it is extremely predictable. Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn play the same type of character they always play, and there are some laughs to be had but you won´t really remember any of them once the movie is over. The movie is extremely average, and once you walk out of the theatre you probably won´t remember it. You´ll enjoy it while you´re watching it, but then you´ll just forget it. Oh and it´s 2 hours long, which is too much for a movie like this, and they could have easily taken out a lot of scenes that really don´t matter too much.

The Internship is just an extremely average and predictable film, that doesn´t do anything wrong, but plays it way too safe. It´s funny from time to time, but nothing here will WOW you, or make a lasting impression on you. I´m giving The Internship 2.5/5

Texas Chainsaw 3D Review

Oh man this one really sucked. Texas Chainsaw 3D is a sequel to the original 1974 film. After the events of that film, the whole family of cannibals are killed, but a baby survives. Years later she finds out her grandmother dies, and she inherits her house. Living in the basement is none other than Leatherface.

This movie fucking sucked. First off, it isn´t scary at all. The movie has no atmosphere or tension, and relies on jump scares (which don´t work either). The characters are retarded, every single one. I had never seen a film with such idiotic characters. None of them are likeable either, so you don´t care when they get killed. Another problem is that there aren´t many kills either, and they aren´t anything special. In a film like this, what I look forward to are the kills, but here there aren´t many and they were all lame. The movie is also filled with many scenes which made me crack up laughing. There is nothing good about this movie, NOTHING. Even the kills look fake, really fake. But the worst part is the following: They try to make Leatherface an anti-hero. They try to make you root for him. Imagine watching Friday The 13th and having Jason look like the good guy. Just NO.

Don´t waste your time, or money with this one. It´s not fun to watch, it´s not scary, it has horrible dialogue, horrible special effects, stupid characters, and they made Leather an anti-hero. This one is probably the worst movie I have seen all year, even worse than Scary Movie 5 (and that sucked balls). I´m giving Texas Chainsaw 3D 0/5

The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones Review

Hollywood seems to be trying to find the next Twilight, so now we get The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones. The plot follows this girl played by Lily Collins as she finds out that she is a shadow hunter, and must find a magic cup. You also have Jamie Campbell Bower playing the male lead, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers playing the bad guy. To be honest at first I was actually really enjoying the movie. There were some cool action scenes, and I was actually kind of liking the plot. There are vampires, werewolves, angels, demons, and a lot of other stuff here... but that is one of my problems with the movie. It lacks originality. For example, there is a place called "the institute" in this movie and it looks just like Hogwarts from Harry Potter.

I tried to ignore all of that, but then midway through the movie something happens. They decide to throw in a love triangle, just like Twilight, and the movie starts focusing on that. The story starts tu suffer here because the important plot points are rushed over thanks to increased focus on the romance. Demons, and werewolves are running around, and there is not really almost any explanation as to why all of this is happening. I also noticed some really big plot points that are left completely untouched. It´s as if the writers just forgot about them. The villain isn´t that great either, since I never really understood the point of him doing all he was doing. He is like Voldemort, but there is 0 build up to his character. They barely talk about him in the movie before he shows up.

I didn´t hate the movie, but there was alot of potential here that was wasted. What started out as an actually decent movie, started to become messy and generic in the second half. Hopefully if they make a sequel they will learn from their mistaked here and actually make a good movie next time around. I´m going to give The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones 2/5.

Grown Ups 2 Review

I hated this one... Grown Ups 2 stars Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, and David Spade. The plot of the film is... well there´s none. The film is actually a set of isolated scenes. In each scene there is a joke, and as soon as the joke ends it cuts to the next scene right away. I wouldn´t have a problem with that structure if the movie was actually funny. It isn´t. I think I laughed once throughout the entire movie, and I could have laughed more but alot of the jokes are ruined because they add an extra line of dialogue at the end of them that just kills them.

The humor here consists primarily on boobs, poo, and piss. There is nothing smart here, and some of the acting was actually terrible at times. It feels over the top the whole time, and it really doesn´t work. I can´t believe it, but it was actually worse than the first one. I´m going to give Grown Ups 2 a 1/5

One Direction This Is Us Review

I´ll admit it: I like One Direction. The songs are catchy, and the guys are actually really entertaining unlike others. Now they have their first movie, and it should come to no surprise that I actually really liked this movie. This is Us is a concert film/documentary. It shows you how they became such big stars, gives you a look into their lives, and also shows some awesome concert scenes.

So first off, the movie is made for the fans, and you can tell. They never really go too deep into their lives, or really show much of the negative side of being so big around the world. it would have been nice to get to know the guys a bit more. That being said we do get to see how they interact with one another, and how they goof around. I have to say that these guys are actually pretty funny, and actually act how a young person would. They don´t follow rules at all, and it´s fun to see them run around and be a pain in the ass to everyone.

Then we have the concert scenes, which are pretty amazing. Visually the film is amazing. I never expected the film to look so good, and the 3D actually makes it better. The song are as catchy as ever, but I was left wanting more of the concert scenes. All in all the film is very enjoyable if you´re a fan. If you are not then I don´t know if you will change your mind about this band, but you might be surprised. I´m giving it a 4/5.

Jurassic Park 3D Review

Jurassic Park was one of the first movies that I ever saw. It was the movie that made me love cinema, and 20 years after it´s original release I finally got to see it on the big screen. I really don´t think this movie needs any introduction, it´s freaking Jurassic Park. We all know the story by now: During a preview tour, a theme park suffers a major power breakdown that allows its cloned dinosaur exhibits to run amok.

When this movie came out it amazed everyone with it´s amazing visual effects, iconic music, and intense scenes. Now we get to see all of that in 3D. So first off I will get into the actual 3D, which really isn´t anything special. It´s not bad, but it isn´t really that good either. It would have been nice to be able to see the film without the 3D. Well now onto the movie itself. This movie is AMAZING. The visual effects still look stunning even after 20 years. They look even better than the effects in some other movies today. The dinosaurs look real, and move fluently. The score by John Williams is one of my favorites, and I even got goosebumps when the iconic song started. The action sequences are still intense and awesome, the velociraptor kitchen scene being my favorite one. 

There really isn´t anything wrong with this movie at all. It completely transports you to another world, and that is one of the reasons I go to the movies. After 20 years this movie is still a masterpiece, and I will definitely give it a 5/5

2 Guns Review

Going into 2 Guns I thought to myself "This is probably going to be another cookie cutter action movie". Well I´m happy to say that this movie really surprised me. 2 Guns stars Denzel Washington and Mark Whalberg. The plot is as follows "A DEA agent and a naval intelligence officer find themselves on the run after a botched attempt to infiltrate a drug cartel. While fleeing, they learn the secret of their shaky alliance: Neither knew that the other was an undercover agent." 

Now my big problem with the film is the plot itself. The movie starts throwing twist after twist after twist and anyone could easily get lost on what is going on. Whoever wrote the script must love twists because there´s alot of those here. What makes the film enjoyable is actually the back and forth between Denzel and Whalberg. They have great chemistry together and are actually really funny throughout the film. I would have been entertained by just watching those 2 guys talking throughout the whole movie. The action scenes are also well shot and entertaining. There is none of that shaky cam bullshit that people seem to love now. Everything that´s happening is clear, and well edited. 

I do think that the film could have used some more action, but the dialogue really makes up for that. In the end I was really surprised by 2 Guns. It had some cool action and great dialogue, but the script would have been better without so many plot twists. I´m going to give 2 Guns a 3.5/5

The Conjuring Review

The Conjuring is based on the case files of the Warrens. Ed and Lorraine Warren were probably the most famous paranormal investigators ever. They´ve been involved in cases like The Amityville Horror, and The Haunting in Connetcicut. But none of those cases shook them up as much as this one did. 

The Conjuring tells the story of the Perron family as they move into a house that ends up being pretty haunted. It may all sound familiar: a haunted house, paranormal investigators, based on a true story, etc. What makes this movie special is the execution. The problem that I always have with horror films is that they always feel over the top, and loud; but the thing that I hate the most about horror films is when they rely on cheap jump scares. Not here. The movie builds up tension with slow camera movements, and excellent sound design. It makes you feel uneasy the whole way through. 

In the acting department you have Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga playing the Warrens, while Lili Taylor and Ron Livingston play Caroline and Roger Perron. Everyone here does a perfect job. You can actually see real fear in their faces, and they never go over the top with the screaming or the crying like in most movies. They look genuinely scared. 

Another plus about this movie is that alot more is suggested rather than shown. They don´t really on showing scary faces all the time, instead they actually scare you by implying that something is there. This movie also features no gore or nudity, so I was surprised to find it was R rated just because it was scary. 

All of the problems thai I have with horror movies are not present here. Great director: Check. Great writing: Check. Great acting: Check. Great sound design: Check. Great cinematography: Check. And most importantly: Great Scares: CHECK. This was an awesome movie and I´m giving it... 5/5
